About our NYC School

Thank you for your interest in our cooking classes!

WHAT TO EXPECT

Home Cooking New York offers intimate hands-on cooking classes at our SoHo cooking school. Each 2 1/2 hour class is $100 and has a maximum of 10 students.  You’ll receive a complete recipe packet and enjoy a full sit-down meal at the end of class with your classmates. Our classes are BYOB.

COVID PROTOCOL

Everyone attending a public or private class at our NYC school must be fully-vaccinated. This is meant to create a safe and relaxed, communal cooking environment for everyone attending.

ARE YOUR CLASSES HANDS-ON?

Yes, our classes are hands-on, coupled with demonstration-style teaching. Everyone is situated at their own cutting board/chef’s knife station around a large wooden worktable that accommodates the whole class. We work together as a group, with the chef at the head of the table. We focus on knife skills, preparing ingredients for cooking, and we strive to find every opportunity to offer you a hands-on experience at the stove and at your station, all within the spacial parameters of a single stove/family-style kitchen.

CULINARY BOOT CAMPS

If you are looking for a more dedicated experience, consider browsing the curriculums of our Culinary Boot Camp programs, to help you build up a repertoire of good, life-long culinary skills. (The New York Times featured our virtual version in 2020; it proved to be a popular pandemic activity). If you do not see a date that works for you, please send us an email, as we are always adding more sessions.

GOOD FOOD SEMINAR: “WHAT TO EAT + HOW TO GROCERY SHOP” – $20

Join Jennifer Clair (HCNY’s founder) for our quasi-monthly food education + grocery shopping workshop, designed to help home cooks make the best food choices in the supermarket. From produce and meat, to dairy and cooking fats, Jennifer will explain how to find the best quality available in your own market, while explaining the meaning behind keywords like local, organic, grass-fed, pastured, GMO-free, certified humane, wild, low-fat, and extra-virgin.

See what is covered in the class, and don’t miss out on this valuable food education!
